The second half of December is a time of tradition. And as important as Christmas itself, we have the Yonex Copenhagen Masters. Here is an overview of the prestigious tournament.

As the tradition prescribes, the Yonex Copenhagen Masters will be played between Christmas and New Year’s in the atmospheric Falconer Salen. In the 2014 edition of the tournament you have the chance to get closer to the stars and experience world-class badminton the 27th and 28th of December. The semi-finals starts at 1:00 PM on Saturday the 27th, and the finals are played at 2:00 PM on Sunday the 28th.

The winners of Copenhagen Masters 2013 are all determined to defend their titles, but it will not be an easy quest for either Victor Axelsen, Christinna Pedersen/Joachim Fischer or Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen as the other excellent participants is willing to do whatever it takes to become the winner of Yonex Copenhagen Master 2014.

Saturday afternoon Victor Axelsen is playing the world’s number eight, Tommy Sugiarto. If Axelsen passes this great Indonesian challenge and Jan Ø Jørgensen is able to defeat Soo Tech Zhi, the audience can look forward to an intensive final between the two best men’s singles of Denmark.

Winning the Copenhagen Master for the fifth consecutive year will be quite an achievement by Christinna Pedersen and Joachim Fischer. In their semi-final the opponents are none other than the ninth best mixed doubles of the world, Puspita Richi Dili and Riky Widianto. Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Mads Pieler Kolding will be up against Birgit Michels og Michael Fuchs from Germany. This is the first match of the afternoon session. Head to head against the Germans Juhl and Kolding are up 2-0, but winning for the third time means defying world rankings, since Michels and Fuchs actually are ranked in the world’s top ten, while Juhl and Kolding is number 14.

In men’s doubles, Mads Pieler Kolding and Mads Conrad-Petersen will be facing Lim Kim Wah and Ow Yao Han of Malaysia in the afternoon session. In the evening session the defending champions of the Masters, Mathias Boe og Carsten Mogensen, is set to play the European Champions from Russia, Vladimir Ivanov og Ivan Sozonov, who actually defeated Boe and Mogensen as well as Kolding and Conrad at the 2014 European Championship. In order for Boe and Mogensen to win Yonex Copenhagen Masters again, they simply have to be at their absolutely best.

Historical day at the finals
The finals will be played Sunday the 28th of December at 2:00 PM. Here we will find the champions in men’s singels, mixed doubles and men’s doubles. But there is yet another final to look forward to. For the first time ever there is women’s doubles at the Copenhagen Masters! And the final is already set: The incredibly strong Danish women’s double, Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen, is playing Suci Andini and Tira Rosalia, who won Indonesia International earlier this year. It is going to be an amazing women’s doubles final with four of the most excellent players in the world, but also a historical moment for the Copenhagen Masters.
