The Danish home crowd seemed to forget that there were no Danish players on the final day of Yonex Denmark Open, when world champion Chen Long entered the Arena in Odense. The chinese obviously love to play in Denmark and the crowd returned his love in the final.
Chen Long struggled in the second round and was close to an exit. However, in the men's singles final the world champion showed great skills when he had to and won 21-19 24-22 against heroic fighting Korean Son Wan Ho. This was the third time Chen Long won the Yonex Denmark Open, after winning the title in 2011 and last year. The defending of the Danish title will be celebrated on a Danish restaurant tonight.

The Korean seventh seed Son Wan Ho was the underdog in the men's singles final. However, the Korean started out best and got an early lead 7-2, dominating the first rallies of the game. Nevertheless, Chen Long has become the world champion for a reason. The Chinese fought back and equalized at 8-8. The rest of the game was very close and the two finalist played with great patience. Chen Long stepped up his game and took control, taking four consecutive points from 15-17 to 19-17 and won the first game 21-19 after 28 minutes of badminton.
The second game started out the same way with some very patience rallies. Only a few heavy smashes were hit and the focus was on controlling the net. Son Wan Ho started out best like in the first game. However, the score quickly became very close, until Wan Son Ho scored four consecutive points, taking the lead 16-12. Chen Long managed to bounce back and equalized at 17-17 with the match still focused around controlling the net. Nevertheless, Son Wan Ho once again took important consecutive points, securing three game points at 20-17. From this point the players stepped up, showing some extraordinary shots. Chen Long turned around the match and won 24-22 in an astonishing finish.
- I think the hardest was that both parts, me and my opponent played at our highest level. In particular, I think it was hard in the second set after 20 points, says Chen Long.
Chen Long won the Yonex Denmark Open and received an exciting applause from the Danish home crowd for the second time in less than two months, also winning the World Championship in Denmark.
