Saina Newhal and P. V. Sindhu had to work for the win in the first round of the women's singles. Nevertheless, both Indians won and especially P. V. Sindhu is happy to be back in Denmark.
Almost two months ago P. V. Sindhu won a World Championship bronze medal in Denmark. She has now returned to play in Yonex Denmark Open. In her first round she faced Yip Pui Yin from Hong Kong China. In the first game Sindhu showed some of her skills from the World Championship, winning 21-13.
- I am happy to be back in Denmark, and I really hope that I can play my best and get another good result, says P. V. Sindhu.
However, in the second game she struggled and faced four game points to Yip Pui Yin at 20-16. Sindhu fought her way back and won six consecutive points and won the game 22-20 and proceeded to the second round.
- I was just trying to play it simple and play the easy shots at the end of the second game, says P. V. Sindhu.
Her team mate from India, seventh seeded Saina Newhal was also playing her first round match in the women's singles. Newhal was highly surprised by German Karin Schnaase, who won the first game 21-12. Saina Newhal fought back and found her way around the court in Odense. She won the two following games 21-10 and 21-12 without any problems.
Chinese top favorites Li Xuerui and Wang Yihan both won in two games in their first round matches.
