Women's Singles:
Four different nationalities got through the qualification in women's singles. Estonian veteran Kati Tolmoff showed that she still knows how to manage her way around a single court. She defeated partner in women's doubles Laura Vana in the first match and followed up by winning in three sets against vietnamese Vu Thi Thrang.
Also the Japanese youngster Akane Yamaguchi went through to the main tournament, defeating the two danes Sandra-Maria Jensen and the Danish national champion Mia Blichfeldt. 17 years old Yamaguchi played very solid and did not get affected by the danish crowd, cheering for the home favorites.
American Rong Schafer became the only player in the qualification who did not loose a single set. Even though she faced indonesian Millicent Wiranto in her second match.
Finally the host nation Denmark got Mette Poulsen through to the main tournament. Poulsen struggled slightly in her first match, winning in three sets against Evgeniya Kosetskaya. However, in her final match, Mette Poulsen won 21-12 and 21-17 against Swedish Mathilda Petersen.
Men’s Singles:
Even though the men’s singles main tournament first will start tomorrow, there has been a lot of great badminton at the qualification-day at the Yonex Denmark Open. The two Danes Steffen Rasmussen and experienced Joachim Persson have qualified after victories over countrymen.
Actually Persson is more or less used to make big performances on the court in Odense - in 2008 he reached the final, where he eventually lost to Danish legend Peter Gade.
Following Joachim Persson and young Steffen Rasmussen are also Irish Scott Evans and Raul Must from Estonia. Both players are used to play in Denmark where they both currently are playing.
Mixed Doubles:
The flags from Thailand, Japan, Denmark and Indian/Russian were on the score sheet when the last four names in mixed doubles where found in the Qualifying rounds on Tuesday.
Thailand’s Puttita Supajirakul/Nipitphon Puangpuapech are going to play against the Dutch Selina Piek/Jaco Arrends.
Japans Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda are up against Chinese Yixin Bao/Cheng Liu.
The young Danish constellation Sara Thygesen/Niclas Nøhr are going to face Indonesians Liliyana Natsir/Tontowi Ahmad.
Finally the Indian /Russian alliance Ashwini Ponnappa/Vladimir Ivanov are going to play against Chinese Ying Suet Tse/Yun Lung Chan.
Women’s Doubles:
Only two women’s doubles were in action in the qualification. Estonians Kati Tolmoff/Laura Vana and the Finnish/Latvian double with Airi Mikkela/Monika Radovska. Tolmoff qualified for the main tournament in singles earlier in the Qualification day and she took some of the good spirit in to the doubles as well.
She did defeat Laura Vana in singles, but together they also found their way into the main draw by winning 21-10 and 21-9.
Men’s Doubles:
It’s has been a quiet day at the office for the Men’s Doubles, where only three matches have been played Tuesday.
Through from the qualification are Hung Ling Chen/Chi-Lin Wang from Chinese Taipei and three Danish pairs; Frederik Colberg/Søren Gravholt, Alexander Bond/Joel Eipe and Mathias Bay-Smidt/Frederik Søgaard Mortensen.
Here is the program for the first round at the Yonex Denmark Open for the Men’s Doubles.
